:GERMANY: Scholz: Canada Is Partner Of Choice In Energy

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has told reporters in Toronto, Canada that Canada is Germany's "partner of choice" as Germany looks to move away from Russian energy imports at "warp speed."

  • Scholz delivered the remarks at a Canadian-German Chamber of Industry and Commerce event with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau where the two leaders are expected to sign a memorandum of understanding with Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen on materials for electric vehicles.
  • Yesterday at a joint press conference with Scholz, Trudeau told reporters that Canada was looking at projects which could bring Canadian LNG to Europe but refused to be drawn on Canada's current capacity for gas exports.
  • Scholz and Trudeau will travel to Sephenville, Newfoundland later today where they are expected to sign a green energy deal to produce hydrogen and ammonia for export.
