CPI Slows, But Remains Ahead of Forecast

Hungary CPI (Mar) M/M +0.8% vs. Exp. +0.6% (Prev. +0.8%), Y/Y +25.2% vs. Exp. +25.0% (Prev. +25.4%)


  • Food prices decelerated for a third consecutive month, slowing to 42.6% in March, but the expiry of government efforts to contain staples inflation resulted in a surge higher for bread and eggs costs.
  • On the month, the largest downside contributors were Electricity & Gas costs, durable goods and other goods, with energy costs falling at the fastest monthly pace since December (and the slowest Y/Y pace in over six months).
