Denmark's Ruling Left-Leaning Coalition Stages Comeback On Final Stretch Of Election

DENMARK

Denmark's public broadcaster DR reports that PM Mette Frederiksen's centre-left bloc may clinch victory in the nation's general election in a stunning comeback after exit polls showed it would fall short of majority.

  • Initial projections suggested that none of the two big alliances would secure outright victory, allowing former Prime Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen's Moderates to become a kingmaker. As things stand, the Moderates are poised to claim 16 seats.
  • Data suggests Frederiksen's bloc will secure 87 seats in the 179-seat Folketing after all votes have been tallied. This means that the left-leaning alliance will be able to form government with support from two Greenland seats and one Faroe Islands seat, which are typically filled by left-wing candidates.
