Dep FM Meets W/Russian Ambassador As Trade Jumps 30% In Q122

The Chinese Foreign Ministry has released a statement talking up bilaterla relations with Russia following a metting between Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister Le Yucheng and Russian ambassador to China Andrey Denisov.

  • Statements says that "under the leadership of President Xi Jinping and President Vladimir Putin, the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination in the new era has continued to develop at a high level, and cooperation in various fields has continued to deepen"
  • "In the first quarter of this year, the bilateral trade volume between China and Russia reached USD38.2bn, an increase of nearly 30%,..."
  • "No matter how the international situation changes, China will, as always, strengthen strategic coordination with Russia to achieve win-win cooperation, jointly safeguard the common interests of both sides..."
  • While China has not engaged in any direct assistance with Russia's invasion of Ukraine, it continues to offer tacit support and a major export market for Russia for goods that are no longer able to be exported to the West due to sanctions.
