Dewan Rakyat To Convene Dec 19, First Order Of Business Is To Elect Speaker

Malaysia's parliament will convene for two days on December 19 and 20, the Star reports citing an invitation sent to newly elected MPs. The first order of business will be to elect a new Dewan Rakyat Speaker, which will be followed by the swearing in of lawmakers and the election of Deputy Speaker. The legislature will then vote on a motion of confidence in Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

  • Anwar continues to work on his Cabinet line-up, which is expected to be unveiled by Saturday. Free Malaysia Today reported that there will be 25 ministers and two Deputy Prime Ministers, one from Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) and one from UMNO.
