DPFP Wants To Field Joint Candidate W/Tomin First In Upper House Election

Jiji Press reports that the opposition Democratic Party for the People (DFPF) may field a joint candidate with the regional Tomin First no Kai (Tokyoites First) in the Tokyo constituency in this summer's House of Councillors election.

  • Unnamed sources told Jiji that the DFPF intends to push for fielding a unified candidate with a view of merging the two parties in the future.
  • A Tomin First source said that "we don't intend to end up in a relationship that is only about policy collaboration."
  • Tomin First no Kai forms the second largest caucus in the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly and has Tokyo Governor Koike acting as their special advisor.
