Draghi Resigns, President Asks If He Can Remain As Caretaker PM

In a statement the Italian President Sergio Mattarella has confirmed that PM Mario Draghi has resigned from office.

  • Also states that he has asked Draghi to remain in place as a caretaker PM until another gov't can be found.
  • Joumanna Bercetche at CNBC tweets on potential next steps: "v small chance that President tries to cobble together caretaker PM for a few more months but MOST likely:all roads lead to Rome:snap elections in autumn! Late Sep/ early Oct"
