Election Preview-Prabowo In The Driving Seat

Voters in Indonesia, southeast Asia’s biggest economy and the third most-populous democracy on Earth, go to the polls on 14 February to elect the successor to incumbent President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo, who is term limited having served in office for 10 years. In that decade, Jokowi has overseen a reduction in the reliance of the economy on state subsidies, engaged in a massive infrastructure push, and drawn in significant global mining interest into Indonesia, and is set to leave office with very high approval ratings. As such, much regional and international focus will be on what the prospects are for policy continuity or a broad change in approach from his successor.
