Erdogan's AKP Slips In Latest Opinion Poll

TURKEY

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's conservative Justice and Development Party (AKP) recorded a 4% decline in its support level over the past month according to the latest opinion poll from IEA. The AKP, with 32% support, remains the most popular party in Turkey, ahead of the centre-left Republican People's Party (CHP) on 24%. However, the level of support currently received by the governing party is well below the 42% achieved in the 2018 parliamentary election that delivered a majority for the AKP.

  • Turkey, IEA poll: AKP: 32% (-4), CHP: 24% (+1), IYI: 16% (-1), HDP: 12% (+1), MHP: 8%, DEVA: 3% (+1), GP: 2% (+1), SP: 1%, +/- vs. 8-12 July 2021, Fieldwork: August 2021Sample size: Approx. 1,500
  • While the next election is not due to be held until 2023, second round presidential polls also show Erdogan struggling against his two most likely opponents: Ekrem Imamoglu and Mansur Yavas, both from the CHP.
