The European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Josep Borrell visits Tehran 24-25 June in an attempt to breathe life into the seemingly moribund Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPoA, the Iran nuclear deal).
- Borrell will meet with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, "as part of the ongoing efforts to bring the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) back to full implementation," according to an EU statement.
- The Iranian gov't has stated the discussions will focus on sanctions relief, not mentioning the nuclear deal specifically, with a foriegn ministry spox stating that "Bilateral relations, regional and international issues, as well as the latest status of sanctions lifting will be discussed during the visit, which is part of the ongoing consultations between Iran and the European Union".
