EU’s Russian Gas Loss to Be Offset by Renewables in 2024

Weak Gas and Power demand, combined with strong renewable generation growth will offset the lost Russian pipeline flows in 2024, according to Platts.

  • Gas demand in 2024 is set for only a small increase, with power demand seeing a similar modest rise, Platts’ analysts said.
  • Moreover, the EU will likely come through this winter with healthy stock levels, barring any extreme weather event.
  • Platts sees the biggest decline in power demand to come from gas-fired generation, while on the supply side, solar, hydro, and nuclear capacity will increase.
