Finnish PM: Keeping Ratification Process As Short As Possible Is Important

Speaking on the sidelines of the 2nd India-Nordic summit in the Danish capital, Copenhagen, Finnish Prime Minster Sanna Marin has stated that ensuring the ratification process for any Finnish application to NATO is as short as possible is crucial for her gov't. Application from Helsinki could come as soon as next week amidst continued concerns about the country's security scenario amidst increasingly bellicose rhetoric from the Kremlin.

  • German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stated today his explicit support for the Finnish and Swedish NATO applications should they be submitted.
  • Unrelated, speaking to the Evening Standard, UK Defence Secretary Ben Wallace stated that it would be 'inconceviable' that the UK would not support Sweden or Finland in the event of an attack, even if they were not in NATO.
