Firms +0.90%, Best G10 Performer

NZD

NZD/USD finished Thursday's session 0.90% higher, the top performer within the G10 space. We pulled back to 0.5920 towards the Asia Pac close before tracking higher towards 0.5970 by late NY trade. We start Friday's session just below this level (last near 0.5965).

  • The pair has cleared the 20-day EMA, the 50-day EMA sits near 0.5980, while the 100-day (0.6045) is likely key topside resistance. We haven't breached this level since late July/early August. On the downside, post RBNZ lows come in at 0.5871.
  • Broader USD sentiment was softer on Thursday, the BBDXY down a further 0.20%. The US yield curve continued to steepen, amid generally dovish Fed speak ahead of the non-farm payrolls print later.
  • The NZ-US 2yr swap spread continues to track higher, last around +73bps, fresh highs back to mid August.
  • US equities finished modestly lower (SPX -0.13%), but recouped a large part of losses in the second half of the NY session.
