Five Republicans Qualify For Second Presidential Debate Tomorrow

US

Five Republican candidates will travel to Miami, Florida tomorrow to participate in the third GOP presidential debate. The debate will be broadcast at 20:00 ET 01:00 GMT.

  • The field has been shrunk by two after North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum (R-ND) failed to qualify and former Vice President Mike Pence withdrew in the face of poor polling numbers for his anti-Trump platform. Former President Donald Trump will again skip the event and attend a rally in nearby Hialeah, Florida.
  • Lineup: Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL), former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley (R-SC), businessman Vivek Ramaswamy, Senator Tim Scott (R-SC), and former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.
  • Although no candidate has managed to mount a campaign capable of challenging Trump’s polling dominance, Haley has been the standout of the chasing pack. She has seen her stock steadily rise throughout the debate season and is now widely considered the most credible alternative to Trump, supplanting early favourite, DeSantis, in a number of early-primary state polls.
