Foreign Min: Ukraine Should Become EU Member

Speaking on a trip to Kyiv, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock states that Ukraine should become a member of the European Union (although perhaps importantly does not give a timeline for such an event).

While Scholz gov't has vocally supported Kyiv's application process, there remain sceptics in Germany regarding whether Ukraine is economically or institutionally at a point where the country meets the EU's strict membership criteria.
  • Baerbock slso confirms the re-opening of the German embassy in Kyiv.
  • Says German imports of Russian energy will fall to zero eventually, "and will stay that way forever".
