Gallant: IDF Closing In On Key Hamas Targets In Gaza City

ISRAEL

Reuters carrying comments from Israeli Defence Minister, Yoav Gallant, stating that the Israeli Defence Force, "are in the heart of the Gaza City," and closing in a key high-value Hamas target.

  • Gallant: "Hamas leader [Yahya] Sinwar [is] isolated in his bunker."
  • Gallant says, "pressure will mount in us, but we cannot stop fighting until Hamas is defeated and [Israeli] hostages return," adding that, "hostages must return before any humanitarian pause."
  • Gallant says, "we have no interest in war with Hezbollah." Referring to the potential second front in Lebanon which could risk direct hostilities with Iran.
  • Gallant says, "Israel will not rule Gaza after war, neither will Hamas."
  • Israel has so far resisted pressure from the Biden administration to agree to temporary short 'humanitarian pauses' to allow the provision of aid into Gaza.
  • Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Mike Johnson (R-LA), told reporters a few minutes ago: "This is not a time to be talking about cease fires, pauses. Hamas gave that up on the 7th when they went into villages and slaughtered people when they attacked music festivals. And so this is a war."
