Germany Weekly Gas Demand Stood 24.7% below 2018-21 Average

German natural gas consumption last week stood 24.7% below the 2018-2021 average. Gas demand from the industrial sector edged down on the week but exceeded 2022 levels for the third consecutive week, Bnetza data show.

  • Gas demand from the industrial sector fell by 8% week on week to 1.073TWh/d but gas use stood 8.8% above 2022 levels.
  • Gas use from households and small business fell to 187GWh/d last week, down from 200GWh/d from the week prior. Household demand continues to lag levels seen in the previous years.
  • Total gas demand fell by 0.4% week on week.
  • German natural gas reserves stood at 94.56% of capacity as of 19 September, compared with 94.03% a week earlier.
