Hse Could Vote on Gov't Funding Bill; Yellen, Powell Face Hse Finance Cmte

Busy day in the US Congress today. The House of Representatives could vote on a bill to avoid a gov't shutdown ahead of the deadline of 23:59:59 on Friday 3 December. Despite narrow Democrat majority, this is likely to pass, but issue with passing in Senate given 50-50 split.

  • Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and Fed Chairman Jerome Powell are up infront of the House Financial Services Committee to answer questions on inflation and pandemic relief. Testimony due to start at 1000ET (1500GMT, 1600CET). Link to webcast here.
  • The Senate continues its work on the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which provides funding to the military for another 12 months. On Monday, GOP senators did not provide sufficient votes to wind down debate on the bill, with some demanding amendments be added to the legislation.
