Incoming Republican Committee Chairs Urge Support For McCarthy Speaker Bid

Politico has reported that 14 incoming Republican House committees have undersigned a letter to GOP reps urging support for House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy's (R-CA) acrimonious campaign to become the next Speaker of the House of Representatives.

  • The letter reads: "As incoming chairs for the 118th Congress, we wholeheartedly endorse Kevin McCarthy for Speaker..."
  • "We urge our colleagues — let us not squander this majority before we even take back the gavels. Time is of the essence, and the American people want us to get to work now. Majorities are earned, never given — and the American people will remember how we choose to begin ours."
  • McCarthy's bid to become Speaker is under threat from a small group of conservative House Republicans who oppose McCarthy, claiming he represents the GOP establishment.
