INDIA: Biden: "Our Economic Relationship Is Booming"

US President Joe Biden has talked up the deepening relationship between the US and India at a press conference following a "very productive" bilateral meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

  • Biden: "The US-India partnership stronger, closer and more dynamic than any time in history... our economic relationship is booming," adding that the US and India are "doubling down to secure semiconductor supply chains."
  • Biden says Indian firms are announcing "more than USD$2 billion in US investments."
  • Biden: "Friendship between our nations is only going to grow as we face the future together."
  • Modi says the meeting with Biden and "important decisions taken", "add a new chapter to our comprehensive and global strategic partnership."
  • Modi says the US-India trade and investment partnership is "important for the global economy," and the says the two leaders, "resolved long pending trade issues."
  • Modi says decisions by US firms Micron, Google, and Applied Material to invest in India "symbolises the futuristic partnership" between the two countries.
  • Modi says that closer defence cooperation, symbolised by the "landmark" General Electric deal shows "mutual trust and shared strategic priorities."
