January 6 Committee To Hold Hearing On October 13

US

The January 6 Committee, the Congressional panel tasked with investigating the unrest on Capitol Hill which followed the 2020 elections, has announced that it will conduct a hearing on October 13 at 13:00 ET 18:00 BST.

  • The hearing was originally scheduled to take place last month but was postponed due to complications from Hurricane Ian.
  • The upcoming hearing will be the 10th, and potentially final, public hearing of the committee. The Committee hasn't formally released any information about the content of the hearing.
  • Chairman of the committee Bennie Thompson (D-LA) said recently he didn't expect new witnesses to be called, but expected to present a "compilation" of information.
  • The Independent: "The hearing is also expected to include never-before-seen interview footage of witnesses the committee has deposed since late July."
  • So far, the probe has done little to influence former President Trump's popularity amongst his core support base. The former president remains favourite to take the Republican nomination to challenge President Biden in 2024.
