NATO

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has delivered remarks following an extraordinary meeting of NATO leaders.

Stoltenberg said: 'The days to come are likely to be worse. With more death, more destruction, and more suffering.' He went on, 'at out meeting today, allies expressed our solidarity for Ukrainian courage.'

  • Stoltenberg confirmed that Sweden and Finland are now taking part in all NATO consultations and meetings, demonstrating the increased political will in Northern Europe to ally more closely with the military alliance.
  • Stoltenberg says that 'NATO must ensure that the conflict does not spread outside its current borders.'
  • He also said that NATO must ensure the security of Georgia and Bosnia and Herzegovina as they may be the next target of Putin's ambitions to re-establish a Russian sphere of influence. This follows Georgia's confirmation of their intention to join the EU and NATO this week.
