Jet Fuel Demand to Hit Pre-Pandemic Levels by 2025: BNEF

JET FUEL

Demand for aviation fuel will return to levels seen before the Covid-19 pandemic in 2025, as the aviation sector continues its recovery, according to BNEF.

  • Aviation fuel demand will be close to pre-pandemic levels in 2024, although will remain marginally below, before recovering fully in 2025. This is a year later than previously anticipated.
  • Consumption is currently being held back by a plateauing in US demand, operational bottlenecks in Europe, and staffing constraints across the sector globally.
  • Leading the recovery in demand are the US, China, and Europe. This is due to their large domestic market.
  • Aviation fuel demand is expected to average 6.2m b/d in 2023, below the pre-pandemic 6.6m b/d in 2019.
