Kirby: We Don't Want To See Conflict Expanded

SECURITY

White House National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby has told MSNBC that the US is, "watching developments on Israel-Lebanon border closely, it is worrisome," adding that the US doesn't, "want to see this conflict widened or expanded."

  • Kirby's comments come as reports from journalists in Israel suggest that a wave of aerial attacks emanating for Lebanon may be underway. See bullet at 16:18 BST.
  • With multiple reports circulating it is difficult to determine veracity or if the incursions represent an expansion of the conflict to include Lebanon-based Hezbollah. Any such reports should be approached with caution until formal confirmation.
  • Kirby is scheduled to speak at the White House in around 30 minutes to give an update on US intelligence. Livestream: https://www.whitehouse.gov/live/
