Kremlin Downplays Prospect Of Nuclear Test

Wires carrying comments from Kremlin spox Dmitri Peskov. Responding to a question on whether Russia is preparing for a nuclear test, states that 'Everyone is abiding by moratorium' and that, 'There's nothing else to say on the issue.' Comes after Foreign Ministry spox Maria Zakharova stated on 27 Apr that "We will do everything to prevent the development of events according to the worst scenario, [nuclear conflict] but not at the cost of infringing on our vital interests, I do not recommend that anybody doubt our determination and put it to the test in practice,"

  • Confirms that military units that have fought in Ukraine will be represented in the 9 May parade in Red Square. The date, marking the defeat of Nazi Germany in WWII, is a major political date in the Russian calendar and is set to be marked by a speech from President Vladimir Putin.
  • Continuing Moscow's downbeat assessment of the future of the Black Sea Grain Initiative, Peskov states that the 'situation for Russian fertiliser exports remains difficult'. Says that part of the deal related to agro exports 'is still not being fulfilled' and that the outlook 'is not very good'.
