UK Chancellor of the Exchequer Kwasi Kwarteng has given an interview to GB News amid speculation about the timing of his medium-term fiscal plan.
- Kwarteng confirms that the fiscal plan will be published on the 23rd of November. He responds to a question of when "shortly" means: "Shortly is the 23rd, people are reading the runes, its going to be the 23rd [of November]."
- Kwarteng: "I don't deny there was some market reaction to the mini-budget."
- Kwarteng: "What we wanted to do was set the debate."
- Kwarteng says he makes no apology for his mini-budget but concedes that the timing wasn't right.
- Kwarteng: "Our tax reduction measures and energy policy will put more money in people's pockets."
- Kwarteng: "Its really important that, as Chancellor of the Exchequer, I have a good relationship with the governor of the Bank of England."
- Kwarteng: "What has been driving inflation is very high energy costs," due to the war in Ukraine."
