Laxalt Closes Polling Gap To Incumbent Democrat Senator Cortez Masto

US

A raft of new polls have shown that Republican Senate candidate Adam Laxalt has narrowed the gap to incumbent Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV).

  • The five most recent polls on FiveThirtyEight have shown Laxalt with a razor thin polling lead over Cortez Masto suggesting that the race has the potential to define which party controls the Senate in November.
    • Most recent poll from the Nevada Independent: Laxalt (R): 45% Cortez Masto (D): 43%.
  • The race likely to hinge on the vote of the sizeable Nevada Latino community. Laxalt campaign advisor Jesus Marquez said: "The Latino vote is going to help us get the victory in November. If we get 35%, that would mean a victory across the board but I estimate that we're going to get 40% of the Latino vote."
  • Democrat strategist Tory Gavito: "Latinos are in a constant persuasion window, they're actually some of the most persuadable voters we have in the electorate. When you tell them what Democrats are doing to support them in this economy, they will vote Democrat."
