Luxembourg FM: Cutting Russia From SWIFT Not Off Table

Wires and social media reporting comments from Luxembourg's Finance Minister Jean Asselborn stating that cutting Russia off from the SWIFT payment system is 'not off the table'. But does say "...let us not limit the SWIFT discussion to yes or no. There has not been such a sanctions package yet. The discussion on SWIFT is ongoing, we do not want to cause an economic crisis with an instrument that may not harm Russia very much."

  • Also states that he thinks the EU 'will find an agreement on freezing Putin and Lavrov's assets'.
  • Yesterday, Germany, Italy, Hungary, and Cyprus all seen as having blocked any EU effort to remove Russia from the SWIFT system.
