McCarthy-No Strings Debt Limit Bill Will Not Pass

US

Speaker of the House of Representatives Kevin McCarthy speaking at the NYSE on the upcoming debt ceiling. Tony Romm at WaPo: "McCarthy now pitching Wall Street directly to get involved in the debt ceiling stalemate: "If you agree, don't sit back, join us. Join us in demanding a reasonable negotiation, a responsible debt ceiling, an agreement that brings spending under control". McCarthy: "This isn't something to be played with. This isn't something to play a political game with" Dems would say this is exactly what the House GOP is doing"

  • McCarthy: 'Have not heard from White House since first meeting with Biden [...] A no strings attached debt limit increase will not pass, but since the President continues to hide, House Republicans will take action.'
  • McCarthy: '"Here is our plan: in the coming weeks, the House will vote on a bill to lift the debt ceiling into the next year, save taxpayers trillions of dollars, make us less dependent on China, curb our high inflation, all without touching social security and Medicare. [...] Spending should return to 2022 levels and limit growth of spending to 1% over next decade.'
