Most Bank of Japan branch managers reported a moderate economic recovery in their regions, with one of the nine regions upgrading its assessment from July, the Bank's quarterly regional economic report revealed on Thursday.

While the region of Chugoku lifted its assessment, the other eight regions left their assessments unchanged from July.

“According to assessments from regions across Japan, many of them reported that their respective economies had been picking up moderately, as the effects of supply-side constraints had waned and as the resumption of economic activity had progressed while public health was being protected from the novel coronavirus (COVID-19),” the BOJ said.

Many managers pointed to a moderate recovery of capital investment and private consumption, while many reported some weakness in production.
