MNI BRIEF: BOJ Eyes Market Stability Ahead of March Year-End

The Bank of Japan may signal a strong stance of ensuring financial market stability ahead of March, the end of the fiscal year, even if the BOJ stands pat on monetary policy later today, MNI understands.

Regardless of the meeting results, whether the BOJ decides to keep policy unchanged or tweaks policy framework, the outcome will fail to tame market speculation about a near-term policy tweak, which may destabilise markets.

In order to maintain the stability of financial markets ahead of the fiscal year end, the BOJ may consider stating that the bank will strive to provide ample liquidity and ensure stability in financial markets through appropriate market operations.
