MNI BRIEF: Need To Keep Yield Curve At Low Level: BOJ Head

TOKYO (MNI)

Bank of Japan Governor Haruhiko Kuroda as good as ruled out the the central bank widening its JGB trading band in this week's policy meeting and strategy review, telling lawmakers that it is important for the central bank to keep the yield curve at low level. His comments were in line with recent MNI reporting, echoing the comments of the BOJ's former head of markets Hiromi Yamaoka

Kuroda said the BOJ continues to target the 10-year long-term interest rate around zero percent and would tolerate the yield in a band 20 basis points either side of that level. Alongside that, he warned that ant excess drop for longer-end bond yields would have a negative impact on life insurance firms and pension funds.
