MNI BRIEF: BOJ Unconcerned by Govt Interest Payments - Kuroda

(MNI) TOKYO

Bank of Japan Governor Haruhiko Kuroda said on Friday that concern over an increase in the government’s interest payment that may follow a rise in interest rates will not impede BOJ’s approach to a potential normalisation of monetary policy.

Kuroda told lawmakers that if the 2% price target in a stable and sustainable manner is achieved, the BOJ of course will move toward an exit from powerful easy policy.

As for wages, Kuroda said the BOJ is focused on whether reasonable wage hikes will filter through to regular workers at smaller firms.
