MNI BRIEF: OBR To Publish UK Public Sector Net Worth In Budget

The UK's Office for Budget Responsibility will publish estimates of UK public sector net worth alongside the Autumn Budget, OBR head Richard Hughes told lawmakers, marking a departure from normal practise.

The data will make grim reading, as Hughes pointed out that the UK is at the bottom of the pack among advanced economies as "We have fewer assets and more liabilities than the rest of the world" primarily because of previous governments' approach of "selling assets to fund the current deficit." There has been speculation that the government might adopt improving PSNW as a new fiscal goal.
