BRUSSELS (MNI) - The European Parliament Economic and Monetary Affairs
Committee will hold a public hearing into the appointment of Luis De Guindos as
European Central Bank Vice President on Feb 26, MNI understands.
The hearing, which will be followed by the vote on Tuesday, is part of the
nomination process for the current Spanish Economy minister to the VP position.
The hearing will take place in Brussels, according to a draft agenda seen
by MNI. It will immediately follow a policy hearing with ECB President Mario
Draghi, the document shows.
The formal procedure also requires an opinion of the ECB Governing Council,
which to delivered on Mar 8. The formal decision will then be made by euro area
heads of states, during the next leaders' summit -- planned in Brussels on Mar
22/23.
Assuming a smooth confirmation process, De Guindos will take up hi position
as vice-president on June 1, replacing current VP Vitor Constancio whose term
ends in May.
