MNI POLICY: US Export Control Contributed to Low Purchase of China: CHN Off'l

MNI (Sydney)

China's top economic planner said Washington's controls on exports had contributed to lower-than-expected purchases from the U.S., along with reduced demand during the pandemic.

Ning Jizhe, the deputy head of the National Development and Reform Commission, told the U.S.-China Business Council in a meeting last week that both countries should work together to overcome any difficulties and foster win-win cooperation, according to a statement released on the Commission's website on Thursday.

Ning also said China has done "enormous work" to deliver the import expansion pledged in the phase one agreement, which had made "positive progress".

The U.S.-China Business council should use its influence to create a "good environment" for corporate cooperation between the U.S. and China, and also for the implementation of the phase one trade deal, Ning said in the statement.
