Monday 10 October:

  • United Nations: UN General Assembly holds a meeting on Russia’s annexation of four Ukrainian oblasts following fraudulent ‘referendums’ in September. There will be a vote on Tuesday or Wednesday on deciding whether the UN should condemn Russia’s actions. There will be close attention paid to whether nations vote with, against or abstain on Russia’s actions. Moscow attempted to have the vote take place anonymously, but this was slapped down by the UK’s ambassador Barbara Woodward.
  • European Union:Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson in Algeria for meetings to try to enhance energy cooperation between the EU and the north African nation. Italy and France have already engaged in significant diplomatic work to try to ensure supplies of Algerian gas in light of the war in Ukraine. Commission clearly seeking to build a similar relationship for the whole of the EU.
