  • EU-China: Trade Commissioner and Executive Vice-President Valdis Dombrovskis holds talks with Chinese Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao in Brussels. Meeting set to be dominated by comments from China’s ambassador to France Lu Shaye, who said in an interview that “former member countries of the Soviet Union do not have the … effective status of a sovereign state in international law.” This raised outrage among former Soviet states in the EU and has been seen as a significant diplomatic misstep.
