The outgoing National Economic Council Director Brian Deese is shortly due to join White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre to provide an economic update ahead of President Biden's State of the Union speech tomorrow.

  • Deese, said in a WaPo interview today that Biden's economic plan, involves “investing in high return areas of the economy like innovation and clean energy, reducing families’ costs in areas such as child care and elder care, and reducing the deficit by raising taxes on large corporations and the wealthiest.”
  • Deese: “The key issue is how we rebuild the economy after the pandemic in a way that generates rising real incomes, higher productivity, good-paying jobs and greater investment.”
  • Deese will leave Biden's inner circle in the coming weeks with Federal Reserve Vice Chair Lael Brainard touted as his likely successor.
