Netanyahu To UNGA-Israel & Saudi On Cusp Of Historic Deal

ISRAEL

Delivering hisaddress to the UN General Assembly in NYC, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu states that “There is no question that the Abraham Accordsheralded the dawn of a new age of peace. But I believe that we are at the cusp of an even more dramatic breakthrough and historic peace between Israel and Saudi Arabia.

  • Netanyahu talked up increased economic and trade links in the region: “The blessing of a new Middle East, between Israel, Saudi Arabia and our other neighbors will not only bring down barriers between Israel and our neighbors. We will build a new corridor of peace and prosperity that connects Asia through the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Israel to Europe.”
  • Says that Palestine "must not have a veto" over Israeli peace deals with Arab states, adding “When the Palestinians see that most of the Arab world has reconciled with Israel…they will embrace the path of genuine peace,”
  • Speaking to Fox News earlier this week, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman stated that, “For us, the Palestinian issue is very important. We need to solve that part,[...] We hope that will reach a place, that it will ease the life of the Palestinians, get Israel as a player in the Middle East.”
  • Any deal between Israel and Saudi would be a momentous moment in the post-WW2 history of the Middle East, and would be touted by the Biden administration as a major foreign policy achievement for the president in the run-up to 2024.
