New COVID-19 Cases In Tokyo Down For 6th Day In A Row Week-On-Week: BBG

Gearoid Ready at Bloomberg tweets the latest COVID-19 statistics from Tokyo, which appear to show positive news on the trajectory of the pandemic: "Tokyo coronavirus case count for today is 4,227. Previous two Fridays: 5,405 5,773. 7-day average: 4,184.6. Serious cases +18 to a record 294. Cases in over-65s: 204 (4.8%). Newly reported deaths: 18. That's six days in a row now that cases are down week on week. It's looking possible that the current wave has peaked. However, we are now seeing the increase in the lagging indicators of serious cases and deaths.

Deaths include 5 in their 50s, and 1 each in their 40s and 30s."

  • After avoiding a significant outbreak of COVID-19 throughout the pandemic (compared to many other highly and densely populated countries worldwide), Japan has seen a significant increase in the spread of COVID-19 over the past month. Over the past week Japan recorded the sixth-highest number of new cases worldwide.
