No Clear Leader Of Republican Party Ahead Of 2024 Campaigning

US

An AP/NORC poll has shown that Republican voters are divided, both on who they believe leads the Republican Party, and who they believe should lead the Republican Party.

  • AP: “Some Republicans, meanwhile, coalesce around a couple of individuals — Trump included. But a majority remain uncommitted to him despite his grip on the party, and Republicans have grown somewhat more pessimistic about the GOP’s future.”
  • Axios reports that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) is a historically strong position for a first-time candidate.
  • Axios: "Since 1976, only six first-time candidates for president (excluding former vice presidents) have averaged more than 20% in early primary polls, according to the N.Y. Times.
  • "It's a star-studded list: Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Rudy Giuliani, George W. Bush, Ted Kennedy and Ronald Reagan.
  • "Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who is currently averaging 32%, would join them if he decides to run."
