NY Congressional Map Struck Down By Due To Democrat Gerrymandering

A New York state judge has tossed out a new Democrat drawn Congressional district map in response to a GOP lawsuit.

  • Supreme Court Justice Patrick McAllister found the maps were illegally drawn to favour Democrats.
  • The proposed map was likely to deliver three additional congressional seats in the midterms and was emblematic of an aggressive redistricting campaign from Democrat run states.
  • McAllister also said the Legislature didn't have the authority to enact the maps which should have been drawn by an independent commission.
  • McAllister: 'The petitioners were able to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the map was enacted with political bias and thus in violation of the constitutional prohibition against gerrymandering.'
