Opposition Civic Coalition Level With PiS In Latest Poll

POLAND

For only the third time since April 2017, the governing conservative Law and Justice party (PiS) does not hold an outright lead in a nationwide opinion poll. The latest poll from Kantar has the opposition centre-right Civic Coalition (KO) level with Law and Justice on 26% support.

  • Parliamentary election poll: KO: 26% (+2), PiS: 26% (-3), Poland 2050: 17% (+2), The Left (Lewica): 10% (+3), Confederation: 7%, Polish People's Party: 3%, Kukiz'15: 0% (-1). Kantar, 13/08/21. Changes w/9-14 July
  • The decline in support for the PiS comes following the withdrawal of the centre-right Agreement party from the United Right coalition led by the PiS.
  • The controversial media law that sparked the breakdown of the coalition passed narrowly in the Sejm (parliament) avoiding an immediate gov't crisis. However, PM Mateusz Morawiecki's gov't is now short of a majority in the lower chamber and is vulnerable to a vote of no confidence.
