PM Orders Party To Cease Criticism Of BoI Governor

ISRAEL

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered members of his conservative Likud Party to cease criticism of Bank of Israel Governor Amir Yaron. This comes after investors took fright at comments from Foreign Minister Eli Cohen and other Likud Knesset members (MKs) who called out Yaron for implementing interest rate hikes to deal with multi-year high levels of inflation, with the lawmakers arguing the hikes are punishing mortgage holders.
