PM To Hold COBR Meeting On Afghanistan This Afternoon

Prime Minister Boris Johnson's spokesman confirms that the PM will convene a COBR meeting this afternoon to discuss the situation in Afghanistan. Last night, the gov't announced that it will send 600 troops to Kabul to assist with the evacuation of UK nationals, armed forces personnel, and Afghan nationals that have assisted Coalition forces in the country since 2001.

  • Comes as several backbench MPs from Johnson's own Conservative Party have criticised the gov'ts decision to withdraw all troops from Afghanistan in line with the US's withdrawal plan, saying the move is a dereliction of duty following 20 years of occupation.
