Polish Officials Speak In Davos, Opposition Forces Talk Pre-Election Strategy

  • Senior Polish officials are in Davos, where they have discussed issues ranging from the economy to the energy situation, to the war in Ukraine. Prime Minister Morawiecki told the media this morning that Poland's inflation is mostly imported and flagged potential for proce growth entering a downtrend from March or April. He noted that Poland will likely avert a recession, but large European economies may experience a "harder landing."
  • Onet reports that the main opposition Civic Platform party is considering forming one electoral bloc with the centre-right PSL, leaving Polska 2050 and the Left out of the bloc. Civic Platform leaders reportedly believe that Polska 2050, led by television personality Szymon Holownia, lacks cohesion which could be a liability. The report comes amid continued negotiations among opposition parties, as they are seeking to reduce the fragmentation on this side of the political scene and mount an effective challenge to the ruling Law and Justice.
