Poll Shows 39% Blame Biden For Rising Gas Prices

US
  • A recent Emerson poll has shown that a plurality of respondents blame the Biden administration for the recent sharp hike in gas prices.
    • 39% blame the Biden Administration
    • 21% blame Russia sanctions
    • 18% blame gas and oil companies
  • The poll is bad news for Democrats who have spent a number of weeks trying to preempt political blowback from gas prices by attributing blame to supply chain problems, the unwillingness of OPEC+ to increase production, and price gouging by oil and gas companies.
  • A bill to ban the importation of Russian oil and gas recently passed the House of Representatives with strong bipartisan support but it appears that Republicans will be largely insulated from political fallout caused by rising energy prices.
  • The GOP has consistently blamed the Biden administration for underinvestment in the domestic oil and gas sector and an unsustainable green agenda. If the upward trend in energy prices continues it will be a key feature of the midterms in November.
