Poll Shows Disconnect Between White House And Voters On Economy

US

A new survey from YouGov has shown the extent of the disconnect between President Biden’s message on jobs and voter concerns over inflation. The survey follows a raft of poor polling for Biden which has cast doubt on his electability in 2024.

  • The survey shows that the data-driven economic message from the White House, which has tended to focus on macro trends like GDP, jobs, and core inflation, has failed to resonate with voters who bear the brunt of higher energy, food, and rental prices.
  • The survey finds that 64% of voters identify lowers prices on goods, services, and gas as their top priority but believe that Biden is unduly concerned with the jobs market and higher wages.
  • The White House will be concerned that, according to YouGov, voters believe that former President Trump is more aligned with their concerns, with nearly 50% saying Trump is focused on bringing down prices.
  • The survey is the second major headache for the White House this week after aNYT/Siena poll found Trump polling ahead of Biden in battleground states and leading across the board for his handling of the economy.
