Portugal PM Calls For VAT Cut On All Energy Products Across Bloc

Reuters reporting comments from Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Costa calling for a reduction in VAT on all energy products across the bloc as Europe struggles with soaring energy costs amidst a crunch in supply and the Ukraine crisis.

  • Costa has previously voiced support for Spanish PM Pedro Sanchez's plans. Sanchez has been on a whistle-stop tour of Europe, drumming up support for his package of energy price relief policies to come in at the European level - including a cap on prices per kilowatt hour.
  • Sanchez's plans have support among southern EU members, as well as France and Belgium. However, Germany and the Netherlands are yet to announce their support.
